'Pay What You Wish' events run on Friday evenings and the first Sunday of every month. Please keep in mind that the museum is very busy during these times.
Visitor tips
The artwork is periodically moved off view and galleries close for periods of time for various reasons, ask at the front desk about any specific artwork or galleries.
Connect to the museum’s free WiFi when you get there.
Backpacks and large bags must be checked when you arrive, visitors may not carry them around the exhibits.
If you wish to sketch, you must use a pencil only and sketchbooks may not exceed 18 x 24 inches in size.

With us, there are no entry fees on the day - all you've got to do is show your pass.

Decide before you go whether you want to do the full audio tour and then go back and take time to do mini tours, or, do them as you encounter them along the tour.
Allow plenty of time as most visitors spend around two hours at the Eastern State Penitentiary.
Last admission is one hour before closing time.
Dress for the weather – the Eastern State Penitentiary does not have climate control.

Redeem your pass at Stop #1 - Independence Visitor Center (Museum of the American Revolution, SW Corner of 6th and Market Street). Once scanned, see the map of the 25+ included stops along the Blue tour route to check where you can hop-on and off.
For guests staying in Center City hotels, a complimentary shuttle van is available for pickup to bring guests to Stop 1 or Stop 6 to start the tour. Guests must call in advance (215-389-8687) and the service is subject to availability.
